It has been a pleasure moderating this BLOG for almost 3 years now. I made every effort to keep it "clean". However, (No! No! I am not bailing out), reading every comment became very time consuming and like everyone else who has a job, a family and other social obligations, I cannot keep doing that.
I trust the contributors to this blog and challenge them to make "clean" comments. Therefore, this BLOG is becoming un-moderated as of end of day today.
I will accept posts but any comments against them will be un-moderated.
Let us see how this works!
Thank you for visiting!

During the time the late LANL blog was unmoderated, the level of vile, profane, and just plain ugly posts went through the roof. Let's see if LLNL bloggers are more polite. I doubt it. Let the flaming begin!
Scooby, you did not provide a critical piece of information: what percentage of posts did you delete for inappropriateness?
The ripple effect caused by inflammatory posts is costly.
Then I would encourage everyone who posts here to remember they are "supposed" to be adults, not children. Speak to others without vulgar, vile profanity, treat others with courtesy and respect.

Thank you Scooby for your years of hard work. You have given freely of yourself with no incentive for self gain!!

to answer your question about percentage of comments I deleted for violating blog rules: 1 in 10.
Hey November 1, 2010 9:32 AM
Thank you for the kind words!
Would a workaround be a "report this post" link?
It's a common component of many website forums.
It would bring to your attention the (hopefully) few posts which would elicit such a response.
Hey Nov 28 11:57AM
Thanks! I will explore this option.
Except for one guy who claimed his posts were being "censored" I haven't seen the need for this since the "change." Scooby, how many (or what percentage of) posts have been deleted since the change you announced on 11/1? Just curious about what problem is being proposed to be fixed?
I have a better idea. At one point near the end of the LANL blog, Doug Roberts disabled anonymous posting. The volume went to close to zero, but the quality and thoughtfulness of posts went through the roof. How about it, Scooby?? Your problem seemed to be keeping up with volume, plus a higher-quality blog will help your image!

It never claimed to be high quality.

Jeez, Scooby, just a little light-hearted jibe. Funny, Doug Roberts got pretty bad-tempered near the end of his time as moderator of the LANL blog too.
