I hope Charlie turns him down. Otherwise, he will be part of the most dysfunctional ,destructive and incompetent US administration ever !
Trump's picks has a pattern. Can anyone guess what it is?
Besides former or current LLNL employees?
I think Trump likes the Livermore people. I’m sure the geologist from LANL can apply later.

People that know more than he does.
No this is not the Obama admin. Charlie is a good choice. I wish him well.
What a great honor it is.
Just think to work with great, professional people like Generals Mattis and Kelly.
Mr. Trump has an amazing Cabinet with great (Billionaire) negotiator Wilbur Ross, (Billionaire)Betsy Devos, Mr. Mnuchen (and beautiful trophy wife)
and don't forget UN with Nikki Haley who's great husband is a deployed soldier.
Before our eyes our Country is being "fixed" after past polite, Globalists President(s) made some horrific decisions. It is historic and wonderful to see the Country do well again after an amazing historic election.
Consider we may never see anything like these historic events the rest of our lives,
but to work with this great Cabinet would be an absolute honor.

My observation is President Trump picks people who are not career politicians. They're proven players in industry or the military and not hampered by being politically correct. The easily offended need not apply.
Cushy high-paying contractor job, on short list for the next Director spot at LLNL, lots of freedom to organize things as he wishes, vs. a probable pay cut for a political appointee job that may evaporate with the next administration, no advancement potential without another political appointment, and rigid walls of constraints in all directions. Sounds like a great move.

Amen.
Easy to see "Transactional Leadership style" Trump picks people smarter than himself.
Not hard to see, just look.
Not to be negative, but honestly I used to cringe in past with 25 year old Obama political hacks running things (sorry negative, but true) and also with Bush establishment made me uncomfortable too.
Good for Dr. Verdon. A smart, genuinely nice person with the technical credibility to lead DP. I would guess he had some real misgivings about the Administration within which he must work, but took the pay cut and the extra headaches out of genuine patriotism. I wish him well.
