How long before...

How long before the LANL labbies try to tear down this new management team from Oak Ridge.. I give it two months.

I'm sure 7-10 years from now you will be saying you are "glad" the Oak Ridge carpet baggers are gone. Mirrors must be hard to come by in Los Alamos. As far as I'm concerned, a little self reflection would be very constructive for Los Alamos. I already see the tearing down of the new management team you so desperately wanted.

I suppose we’ll see, 8:29. Interesting how you’ve moved from months to years in your prognostication. If Mason is as bad as Nanos, it will be hours to days. Either way, LANL employees have been fair judges of their directors over the years.

The tearing down started about a month ago. Triad's fiasco on signing the new employment agreements plunged most people's expectations. The excuses used why it took 10,000 emails to go out over the course of 3 days was not plausible. Spammers send out millions is a blink of an eye.

The lack of response to that issue was also alarming. The phone "bank" to handle calls did not exist. I know I waited 15 minutes while the phone rang, and rang.

There were no paper forms of the agreements.

It was not well planned or executed.

Typical new contractor hiccups. If you are going all-out fail on this stuff, you are definitely going to be a problem employee in the future.

I think LANL employees will give the new team a chance. The culture of LANL can be challenging, but there is a good mix of new and established people that should be helpful in the long run. The main problem I see, though (and somewhat ironically), is that too many of the previous management remain. Particularly on the weapons side. It is not that they are bad people, but that some real change was needed to move into the future. More innovative thinking, less holding on to the past. It starts at the top. Mason is an interesting choice and I think a good one. If they can get the ops stuff straightened out, this new team might be the best thing that could have happened at LANL. Time will tell.

I seriously doubt LANL will ever reflect on their issues and truly protect their people. It is telling that they cannot keep professionals in their nuke facilities. People that understand nuke safety and ops run away. Seriously dangerous place.

Well, "the past" is when nuclear weapons demonstrably worked, and people actually tested them to prove it and knew how. If the "the future" involves no actual threats to the safety and lives of citizens of the US population, then feel free to be complacent about moving "into the future." Otherwise if you have responsibly for the US nuclear deterrent, you might want to take it seriously.
