COVID a nuclear security risk??
“Traditionally, presidents have temporarily conveyed authority — including nuclear launch authority — to the vice president when they anticipated being under anesthesia. Ronald Reagan took that step in 1985, and George W. Bush did so in 2002 and 2007. There was no indication that Mr. Trump was unconscious, but there was reason to be concerned that the cocktail of drugs he was given could impair his judgment to make the most critical decisions entrusted to a president.
Last week in telephone interviews with Fox News and Fox Business Network, Mr. Trump said he was no longer taking experimental medications but was still on dexamethasone”

Hmmm, something is off about this, oh yes NYT. Never mind, Trump is obviously fine, I think the doctors would say something about his mental state if there was actually an issue which by all accounts there does not appear to be any. This is not to mention that many of the drugs will have a low risk of causing mental issues. It sounds like the usual NYT story leaving about important details, exaggerating others, and cherry picking. The NYT is not the newspaper it once was from 30, 20 or even 10 years ago.
I know some clown is going to say "The NYT is the paper of record that educated and smart people read, it is not biased and only abides by the highest standards of journalism....so there"
Please the NYT is becoming a joke and every serious journalists knows this. 2020 has not been
kind to them a bunch of reporters and employees have left citing extreme bias. There has been a lot of infighting where you have the liberal but fair crowd versus the crazy SJW win at at all cost crowd. Just today we have our latest round of nonsense.

Now the woke crowd at the NYT just denounced their own colleague for pointing out some of the huge problems with the 1619 project that that NYT put out. The 1619 project states that everything in America is deeply racists...everything. Never mind that a bunch of real historians have a problem with it.
In short the younger crowd at the NYT does does not believe that they have any obligation to be objective and the concept of objectivity itself is problematic. The fall of the NYT has been going on for some time, it is not that grand paper it was in 1990. I suspect that there is going to be a major implosion and the newspaper is just going to collapse as more people are starting to realize the jig is up. In fact the jig is now up with the journalists themselves.
In other words the article that started off this thread is nonsense. It is intended as propaganda not news and the young crowd at the NYT really have now problem admitting that it is propaganda but that is what they think the role of the paper should be.
Oh, there is "something" about Trump's mental state, all right. Always has been.

And what else did Donald whisper in your ear, dear.
New York Times has a liberal bias in their editorials. After all, the editorial section is based on opinion. The news reported in the New York Time is factual. tRump would like everytone to believe him, instead of the NY Times for obvious reasons... he does not have a healthy relation with truth. Below is from the "media bias/fact check" site:
"Overall, we rate the New York Times Left-Center biased based on word and story selection that moderately favors the left, but highly factual and considered one of the most reliable sources for news information due to proper sourcing and well-respected journalists/editors. The failed fact checks that occurred were on Op-Ed’s and not straight news reporting."
Why has this blog been taken over by political stupidity that has nothing to do with the labs?

This is a good point. I have noticed that the Times does a good job in many cases and even puts out stories that people do not like. For example they had a story on Breana Taylor and even came to the conclusion that realistically that only one of the officers could be charged and this story was well before that was the outcome. They also had lots of the details correct about this story when other news sources where saying wrong things about the case.
I think one of the problems is that most people are now only reading the Op-Ed pieces and then saying since it is the NYT it is actually news. My interactions with people who read the NYT consist of them sending me links to Op-Eds. I think their regular news articles are seen as simply too boring for many people. I also believe the story Covid is a national security risk is another Op-Ed.
They have some other issues as well like their 1619 project which is now under a huge amount of scrutiny. I am not sure what type of article it is since it is not a Co-Op piece but is also not a regular news piece.

But, but, political stupidity has +everything+ to do with the labs!
I think this is a real issue. Trump sounds like Covid has eaten his brain. In last nights debate Trump was actually saying that coyotes are bringing children in from Mexico. Sure a pack of coyotes grabs kids and runs them across the border. What the hell is he taking about? I see coyotes in the hills all the time but I have never seen them carrying a kid. Wow.
You actually don't realize that "coyote" refers (and has for many years) to the "guides" that are paid to conduct secretly illegal immigrants across the US-Mexico border? You should get out from under your rock more often.
The term "coyote" is a dog whistle to white supremest and hint that Hispanics are considered less than human but are like animals. No human would ever be refereed to as a "coyote" or an animial. It was obvious that Trump meant it as a racial slur. The fact that you do not see this is due to your privilege and your attitude is exactly the reason we need CRT at the labs to educate people on these things. Just because you did not know the true meaning of this does not let you off the hook, it is up to you to learn these things to understand what millions of people in the United States have to endure every day. It is not enough to be not racists you must be anti-racists. You need to educate yourself on dog whistles, systemic racism, unconscious bias, and most importantly privilege. It is you that needs get out from under your rock of privilege.
What BS. It is the Mexicans who look for guides to lead them across the border illegally who call them "coyotes". Get a clue and get a grip on your wokeness.
PS: I will continue to enjoy my privilege. I earned it. Eat that.
Well Julian, with the drivel meter redlining on your blog, you might want to come up with a way to get it back on the "things of interest to lab employees" track.
Hey 10/28/2020 4:05 PM,

I think many of these things are relevant for the lab so I think Scooby is doing just fine and killing off threads when they are getting boring or way too off topic. In Los Alamos there are some facebook pages for the local paper that are getting a 100 posts on just how the current politics could effect the labs. The big one right now is if cuts will be coming to NNSA labs if Biden wins, many of the posters think it will. Others have pointed out that the labs have usually done well under Democrats, others say sure NW will be cut but Joe will make them do Green Energy work so the money will be changed not cut. Maybe you could start a few threads on this. I suspect that by next week these threads will naturally appear.
Hey 10/28/2020 4:05 PM,

Innovate.
How?
AI to weed out irrelevant trolls?
Since this blog is not a subsidiary of either eBay or yahoo, we cannot afford AI expertise. Of course, if you can help directly, I won't stand in you way.

How about I act as an AI and tell you which trolls to weed out? Lets start with 4:03 PM.
Hey 10/31/2020 9:32 PM,
4:03pm could be you. It seems that you are either an AI aficionado or have a severe case of AI. Stop!
Right Scooby. "AI Guy" is a troll.
