I see Parney has tweaked LLNL's mission statement...
Old Version
Ensure the safety and security of the nation through applied science and technology in three key areas: Nuclear Security, International and Domestic Security, and Energy and Environmental Security.
New Version
Strengthening the United States’ security through development and application of world-class science and technology to: enhance the nation’s defense; reduce the global threat from terrorism and weapons of mass destruction; and, more broadly, respond with vision, quality, integrity and technical excellence to scientific issues of national importance.

Quite frankly, mission statements are meaningless without vision and leadership.
Parney left out one statement in the LLNL mission statement, ".....ensuring we continue to steal nuclear weapons, LEPs, hydros, and other nuclear weapon work from LANL, stealing any good ideas from LANL, and providing LANL with an endless supply of our most incompetent leaders ...."
...ensuring we continue to steal nuclear weapons, LEPs, hydros, and other nuclear weapon work from LANL.
The Air Force is nearly as disappointed with LANL as the Navy hates LLNL, so they are providing a lot of the forcing function for the redistribution.

Not that I doubt the statement but do you want elaborate on why the Navy allegedly hates LLNL?
I am interested how LLNL "stole" a LEP. Was it at gun point, a knife against the throat, the threat of a baseball bat?
Let's face it, the folks who designed the warheads in the stockpile have either died, retired or are very near retirement. Most if not all the people who are involved in these projects are those that have done the paper studies, ran simulations on computers and have done some non-nuclear testing to verify their guesstimates. It's the B team of LANL vs the B team of LLNL. The A team members, the guys that actually proved their designs in a real test, well they are a thing of the past.

For starters, LLNL performed inaccurate and incomplete safety studies (that they were not asked to perform) that ended-up costing the Navy millions of dollars. Also, LLNL was a pain the ass during the Dual Revalidation program. The Navy hated this DOE mandated study. Also, Dr. Barry Hannah (SSP) who loathes LLNL. You could also ask Roger Stanton, but he's retired in Florida. It's amazing that no one is left that has any history with this customer. Sad!

Actually at LANL some of us have the knowledge but are working at the Facilities ...... thanks to Bret Knapp.
LLNL had a guy by the name of Jim Tyler that the Navy hated in particular. Tyler was arrogant and condescending. I remember Hannah nearly punching him a meeting in Crystal City. In general, the Navy perceives LLNL as being "trouble makers", which is justified.
One of the reasons RRW died was the Navy did not want to work with LLNL on the design. I can tell you that the Navy "secretly" supported Pedicini and Team and both the Navy and LANL were defeated when LLNL won the competition. The only reason LLNL won was to "sustain" the LLNL. I thought you guys from LLNL were "read-in". Who's left at LLNL, a bunch of junior designers that are still wet behind the ears!

Do some research on the Nearby Explosion Study (NBE).

No, it was simply a bunch of bonus money for the Dynamic Trio (Anastasio, McMillan, and Knapp). These clowns gave up the W80 to Livermore in return for some bonus money deposited in their bank accounts. Unfortunately, our U.S. nuclear weapons are merely gambling chips in the LANS/LLNS Casinos.
Actually the Dynamic Trio received bonus money for giving the W78 LEP to LLNL. The W80 was transferred long before this.

Absolutely correct. Unfortunately, there are too many people on this blog who don't know a thing about (even recent) history, and just try to make it up.

Ah yes, Jim Tyler, one of a kind. A classical "loose cannon".
I don't have a history in this side of the business, but I would remain vigilant that I was not bated into saying something that I shouldn't.

Uh-Oh - the PC thought police. You would "remain vigilant" on an anonymous blog?? HeHeHeHeHe. PS - the word is "baited."
