I wonder who signed off on this contract in the first place? Is this the end of this scandal, or is their more to come. LANS is proving to be a large head-ache for both DOE and NNSA.

Bechtel says that her amazing integrity makes her ideal for a position in LLNL senior management.
Sorry to rain on this parade of Bechtel haters, but she was not from Bechtel. Charlie made a big deal out of needing "his" team, and she was hand picked by him. Her actions may, or may not, have been illegal; however, it looks like that they now will become part of the Bechtel legacy at LANL. And Charlie will be remembered for his "follow the money" guidance, as well as his association with the $4,000 "night at the opera"!
According to the report in the local newspaper, this has been going on for a long time. Seems that Charlie knew about it way back last year and kept her around. Appears that she left not for the act itself, but only because someone leaked the investigation report and it hit the press.

It was reported that the Deputy Director's husband was hired as a consultant, and that there was insufficient oversight on the award of the contract.
But, but, say it can't be true.
Surely all this was fixed after the scandal of the last consultant (Wilson) that was hired by LANL with problems. Can anyone say with a straight face that there were any changes?

That is exactly why she "stepped down" .... with dignity. Charlie knows he should have fired her when her learned of this but rather chose to "protect her". So who's gonna question Charlie's actions. It's no wonder Knapp bailed, beautiful timing. All I can say, is that maybe one of the "Big Three" will feel some "pain" now like they been handing out for 8-years.

Sound like a good ole fashioned "cover up". But, does anyone care? Does DOE/NNSA have the balls to clean up this caca?
You gotta wonder if the parent companies aren't sweating this one out. In isolation, this specific case probably does not rise to the level of 'waste', but taken in combination with all else that has happened at LANL in the past two years, it might pass the threshold. If so, that leads to consideration of potential suspension and debarment actions against the parent companies. What a way to be at risk to loose billions of government contracts over the modest revenue from operating LANL.
Look we are a for profit private company. This is how for profit corporations work. You have to bend the law a bit and it pays off. It is the way of the world now and there is no going back. You are all just jealous that you could not swing these kind of deals. All of you would if you had a chance. We are all in it for money and some of us are better than others. The labs have been sheltered from the real world for a long time but they are no different than any other place and now must play by real world rules. It is eat or be eaten, cheat or be cheated, grow or die, get to a tipping point or fail, see what the dog sees or go blind.

You have no idea how the world works, except for what you read by Ayn Rand (if you read at all). "You are all just jealous that you could not swing these kind of deals." What "deals" are you talking about? Corruption, lying, and cheating are not "deals." They are the way the lowlife scum lives. Some of us know how to survive and prosper without acting like scum. Sorry if you don't.
Charlie is getting a bum rap on this. He has excellent staff that he has attracted to work with his leadership. Someone inside the ranks must have leaked the investigation report to the paper in order to make Charlie look bad to the public.

One thing is for sure, and that is that he is NOT "good" at identifying, promoting and keeping a strong leadership staff. He is coming up on three years as Director, and has had lots of issues filling top slots. In any given month, there are several 'acting' PAD or AD positions. While all large organizations are expected to have periodic turnover in leadership, LANL has seen a constant stream of 'acting' leaders for the past few years. The uncertainty of the situation has led to confusion with sponsors and added more stress to the workforce.

State your definition of the term. I've never met anyone who thought he was too well paid and gave some of his salary back. I have, however, met many people who though they were underpaid, but that the other guy was overpaid and therefore "greedy." What's your story? Or is "greed" just your mindless one-word answer to every question?
Can't speak for 2:18, but what else would motivate a person to risk the big bucks & a good career for a few extra crumbs?
Risk taking leads to success. Lack of risk = mediocracy. Your "crumbs" = another man's treasure.

What part of "Limited Liability Company" don't you understand? The parent companies are shielded from any liability from actions of the LLC.
