LANL is reduced to software? Experimental hardware gone bye -bye?

Well, I guess it's easier that way.

R&D100 are pure BS. I got one of these and they are worth shit. LANL did not even want me to go the award ceremony. Waste of tax payers money, they said. So if the other labs want to showcase how they waste taxpayers money, shame on them.

One of the most important inventions/innovations for enabling large aperture, high energy and high peak-power laser systems - the large aperture plasma electrode Pockels cell by Goldhar and Henesian - did not get an R&D100 award in the mid-80's because it "wasn't deemed to be of commercial importance" !

It is a critical technology for NIF, LMJ (France), LLE (Rochester, USA), and the Chinese versions of NIF.

So if you didn't get one, you are in good company !
