What happened to the promised Obama dedication?

What happened to the NIF building/display dedicated to President Obama that Ed Moses promised?

They're going to rename it, "The Trump Laser Facility", if he keeps the money flowing.

Exactly. Align with your customers. Bring back Lowell Wood. Put climate change in background.

Trump will re-fund all the LLNL failures, NIF, Excaliber (aka X-ray Lasers), Brilliant Pebbles, Magnetic Fusion Test Facility (MFTF) (aka Yin Yang), others? anybody?

Right after NIF breaks even, Obama will come out to give his blessing.

But NIF did break even with the high foot capsule. Oh, that was only 1% of break even. Sorry.

Got Trumpfed.

I think Moses and Hurricane shtupped the DOE on the break even thing. Not even close. A lot of media outlets had to make the correction that this wasn't 2 MJ of yield as promised. No dedication. You're fired!

What ? Never heard of it after working over a decade on NIF. Obama was not a big supporter. So why give him any credit. Our physics colleague Steve Chu was a great Energy Secretary. How would Trump pick a bureaucrat for the job ? Like Governor Rick Perry. Not likely. Maybe go back to the MIT engineer (what was his name ?). Maybe Cherry Murray ! That would be a great choice.

Wrong - break even was achieved based on the x-ray energy directed inside the "can" to the target.

But unfortunately, hohlraums are very inefficient in converting laser light to x-rays. Too many interfaces, losses, etc...

Now inside a bomb we have plenty of x-ray drive. LOL

Hey 9:41, are you saying that the fusion yield was equal to the X-RAY energy?

It was not even equal to the absorbed energy, 150 KJ.

The yield was equal to the work cone in compressing the DT in the capsule, 20 KJ.

This is one percent of the predicted ignition yield of 2 MJ.

A complete failure.

Well no one said that hohlraums are efficient, they only work in bombs !
