DOE and NNSA layoffs

 DOE and NNSA layoffs

Between 1,200 and 2,000 DOE workers were laid off recently. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/sweeping-us-energy-department-layoffs-hit-nuclear-security-loans-office-sources-2025-02-14/

How long before this hits employees working for LLNL, LANL, Sandia and NNSS?

It will be remembered as "the Valentine's Day massacre of 2025"

The dismissal of probationary NNSA employees was recinded this morning. According to DOE, about 500 employees were originally dismissed. It isn't known how many employees would opt to return.

In an earlier comment I stated 500 employees had been originally dismissed. This number isapparently incorrect. Originally 300+ employees were dismissed, according to current press statements. Amid the confusion, who knows.

Wrong, it will be remembered as the day NNSA got humbled. What do these federal paper pushers even do besides make our lives miserable and slow progress to a snails pace? Just give the money directly to the labs and cut out the middlemen.

They could fire every Washington bureaucrat along with every member of the site offices and productivity would double overnight.

Thankfully, past and present incestuous behavior between the NNSA “Field Offices” and their assigned federal contractors, will soon be examined in detail by DOGE.

Both LLNL and LANL are leaning heavily into AI so a rapid reduction in the workforce will not have big effect on the labs. It will likely make it more efficient with the AI being faster and more reliable. I know the lab managers think AI is going to change everything and they also like the idea of replacing workers.

True. What the media doesn't understand is that NNSA itself doesn't actually do anything. It's all done by the labs. Cut out the middlemen and send the funds directly to the labs.

The incompetence of Elon felon and his clueless millenials is proven. He said they found 150-year old people on the SSA files. Listen to this lady explaiñ why this is normal.
