DOGE and NNSA

I hear DOGE has asked NNSA to look into the lab management contracts that they have judged are too expensive. I am not sure which labs they are of if they will re-adjust the contracts (reducing the fees) or look to recompete them.

At LANL it is not nearly as expensive as LANS was with Triad but we spend way too much "kick back" money to the state of NM, of which LANL gets nothing in return and in fact reduces the quality of services in many cases. This is not a small amount like 100 million or more that is simply a pay off.

The NNSA itself was created to address numerous DOE issues in 2000. Have they, or are they just another example of government bloat? A DOGE value added question indeed.

I think its is safe to say the creation NNSA has been total disaster. It was created in 2000, this was followed by the Nanos shutdown at LANL, the change in the LLNL and LANL contracts, several workforce downsizes and the documented decline in the quality of the science and workforce across the whole complex. Not to mention that it made no difference at all in an issues it was suppose to fix. Can anyone point to single bit of value it has added?

It is a classic example of government bloat.

Please do not normalize DOGE. DOGE is an illegitimate government department. Congress has the sole power to create new departments/agencies.

It was created by Congress under President Obama.

Point #2, This not your post, you copied this from somewhere else. I keep seeing the exact same post on other platforms the last few days.

Point # 3, any one who uses the word normalize in a non mathematical
context has no idea what they are saying.

There is a whole list of words and phrases that giveaway you away as mid-wit. "problematic" "normalize" "literally" "decolonize" "circle back" "not ok", "patriarchy" "systemic" "rape culture", "mansplain" "capitalism" "fascisim" "gaslight" "resilient" and "my truth". Do not use these. You have no idea what they actually mean or imply. It also gives it away that you are simply repeating something you heard elsewhere.

Thank you, whoever you are.

The idea that the solution to government mismanagement is another, overlapping bureaucracy never made any sense to begin with. Instead of creating NNSA, they should have pulled the AEC back out of Jimmy Carter's DOE. Having it in DOE has done a lot of harm because the two have little in common. We need to get over the deluded belief that nukes involve any science, 80 years after the first TRL 9 demonstration of the technology. It's like studying vacuum tube science in 2025.
