The time is near that we will soon see some of our friends heading out the door. Just remember, it's not their fault -it's ULM that has screwed up and it's hurting many people. So, everyone go get a box of kimwipes (Kdrys), and have a suppy on hand for that day - either for yourself or a co-worker. This will be the seventh lay off I've been through (i did survive the other 6), but there were lots of teary eyes all the othe r 6 and I'm sure this one will not be any different.
My suggestion is if you are too emotional to think straight when it happens to you is simply say that you don't feel good and you are going home sick. Tell them you'll call them next week to do your exit requirements.

Good advice. The one time I was laid off, even though I thought I'd prepared myself emotionally (I could see it coming), I wasn't. On that day, when your supervisor says, "come to my office," it gets hard to think straight, no matter what.
Forget about your own work. Get up and go with them, be their support person.
If the manager questions your actions, give them the coldest look you got and then keep helping your friend.
I hope some of the supervisors are reading this post! on friday I saw a supervisor blow his top and start yelling at a employee, the employee kept his cool and realized that the manager was strested out over the layoffs that where coming on the 19th! my own supervisor is a mental case because of the layoffs he can't control his mood and takes it out on me and the crew! I think it is time to start burning my sick leave. thanks a lot HW,SL,FR,HC,RR and the rest of the RECHTEL boys!!!!
I say when the 22nd comes and they start marching people out the gate, all 535 that day I'd stay real clear of them and management. You can't help them. They're just like the Jews who were being marched to the gas chambers. All you can do is standby and listen to the screams and hope you're not next, if you want to wait that long. I wouldn't advise it. When this clump of people are gone the list will be started for the next batch. This will continue for at least 2-2.5 years. Remember, there is no mission and funding is going to get cut. It's just a matter of time before one of us are next to go.
It they don't get you on this first layoff, they'll have ample opportunities to get you on future layoffs. What a place to work!
On the 22nd and 23rd LLNL employees should line the road to the west gate and applaud those workers who are being "escorted" off the site. This simple gesture will allow your fellow employees a final opportunity to hold their heads high and know that their dedication, hard work and loyalty to the country was appreciated and will not be so EASILY FORGOTTEN!
