Easily Forgotten
On the 22nd and 23rd LLNL employees should line the road to the ( west gate ) and applaud those workers who are being "escorted" off the site. This simple gesture will allow your fellow employees a final opportunity to hold their heads high and know that their dedication, hard work and loyalty to the country was appreciated and will not be so EASILY FORGOTTEN!

What time are these employee's going to be marched out the gate and where will they be coralled prior to departure.
Employees will be marched out the gate pretty much all day from 9 until 5 or even later. Assuming 250 employees per 8 hours, that's about 30 per hour, or one every two minutes. Expect exits to peak between 10:30 and noon and again from 3:30 until 5.
Yes, all day, for 2 days. Why have stress for only one announcement time when yuo can draw it out for 8 hours a day. LLNS can kill a few employees off on those 2 days just by stress alone.
Rumor at the cafeteria today says about 400 will be let go thursday and the rest will be let go friday. Who knows why they split it up that way. Sounds kinda stoopid if you ask me. Don't know when the next batch of flex and supplemental labor will go. Rumors are that many of them have been told they will be getting new warn act notices.
We need the local media to document this tragedy. And hopefully juxiposition it next to the announcement by the new Russian president to fully fund their weapons programs.
Also get Livermore, Pleasanton, and Dublin city officials out there to see their tax-base preparing to depart.

What the employees pay into the tax base is peanuts compared to the taxes they get for strutures on site. If they lose at one end they simply make up their loss by raising the taxes on LLNL at the other end and these cities are all happy.

They won't even know you are gone and even if you lose your home, cars , etc there will always be someone there to scoop it up at a really cheap price. The bank doesn't care nether. You've been paying that interest for decades so they made their money up front. Now they get the house back and sell it for more to another fool and make those interest payments again. The banks and government have this all figured out so they will always win and you lose no matter what happens. It's a cruel world. Again, the RIF'fies departure won't be noticed.
I support the idea of showing our support for those leaving, and demonstrating our concern for those who will be staying, by showing up at the West Gate between 11:30 and 12:30 on Thursday, the 22nd. I'll talk it up with my colleagues, and I hope you do, too, and let's gauge the interest in a quiet demonstration of our concern and of our resolve.
Tehy will just be replaced by Bechtel employees, if funding ever comes back

R-i-i-ght. They're more interested in sending people here than filling the ?? vacancies they already have in the US and around the world.
Makes perfect since to me.

You are going to hang out over there on Lab time? Very risky move. You may hate management and this layoff but getting yourself fired doesn't serve any purpose. But then again, maybe you want to get fired or just don't care in which case, more power to you.
They could fire me for going to lunch if they want to. So what?
I hope ULM would be stupid enough to fire someone for that. There are lawyers who'd love to take on that case.
For May 15, 2008 11:36 PM, I too heard the 400/135 split between Thursday and Friday. The larger Thursday herd is to be comprised of non-200's and 200's with less than 10 years. The Friday bunch are the ones that NNSA could not see fit to pay up front and required them to hang around for the 60-120 day term. It could provide an opportunity for a tour of the Sunshine building for those who need to set up shop for a couple of months. Possibly training in filling out the paper time cards.
When this layoff is completed, maybe they will publish a lessons learned and figure out how to do it better next time. But with NNSA making some byzantine rules and LLNS trying to make it cheaper, I would expect the next round to be swifter and more brutal.
Dang, it was nice place to work way back when.
The policies will be (or have been) rewritten. Is there any reason to think that there will be severence payments next time around?
Maybe we should require ULM to attend some kind of special training. Of course, it will require some sort of hands on training as well as a computer (web) based class and most likely an IWS . . . GOOD GRIEF!
"The policies will be (or have been) rewritten. Is there any reason to think that there will be severence payments next time around?"
Yes because it's in the Lab contract.
