Who cares? I do!
Last time I checked, Wallmart did not stock nuclear, biological, chemical weapons material on their shelves.
Even if you don't work there, there is a real danger to people living nearby.
LLNL is in big trouble. Part of physical security is loyalty to your employer and there is absolutely none left. People might stop a rogue worker, ignore them, or join in.
If it happens in my area I'll protect my friends. Management is on their own.
Someone will eventually break down!
Being laid off for someone whose only job was at LLNL means to him/her the end of the line. I will not be surprised if someone breaks down.
Stress levels are at very unhealthy levels within the lab. I've never seen anything like this before.
It will al be over very soon. Just hang in there. You'll get a few months off and then we can start again.
It's not over on the 23rd, they'll take another 49 every 30 days til the end of the fiscal year and the WARN Act does not come into play! Look at GM's charts from his little chat he had with us a few weeks back, and than look at HR's homepage and see how many FTE's are currently employed, than do the math!
I was at a lunch time meeting where there was a discussion of a sliding window of less that 50 people per 30 days could be released without a WARN notification. Art Wong stated that there was a limitation to that method . He stated there was a cap amount in a year. Looking at the state and federal WARN act on the web, I did not see that cap. I think you could continue to slide 49 people out the door every 30 days. While on the California WARN site I did see the numbers and dates listed for LLNL:

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy decade.

These are just numbers that we already know. Where's the RIF # for decades to come? However, I would expect to see a replay of this next year. When LLNL head count gets down to 4000 or about 50% of where we were when LLNS took over we may be in god shape but with all the Pu leave maybe by the end of 2009 and weapons going to take a 20% cut again I would say the head count could be even far less. Yes this RIF's will continue until the missions LLNS was tasked to do is complete. Do yourself a favor and use what ever time you have left to look for employment outside LLNL and prepare to relocate.

Well, the 3161 only allows for 100 "career" employees in a rolling 12 month period - the 49 a month comes from flex and contractors. basically phillips or flathead. We are all screwed.
