Well, I survived today - I kept my job, but is was rough anyway. I watched several friends being marched out the door. One had been there for over 25 years - they had no idea the train was even coming, much less it was stopping for them. They were given about an hour to pack their stuff (not nearly enough time), then off to the exit center. Their management will sort through what was left and send what they think belongs to the employee and ship it to them.
One of the people not only saw the train, but knew the schedule. Everything left in their office fit into a paper grocery bag. They were allowed to say a few goodbye's since their escort had allowed time for packing that was not needed.
I wonder how the person who had a tree fall on their White BMW parked on Avenue B feels?

Well my day was sh**** my wife was let go the train hit her head on. luckily I was in her office when it happened so I was there for her. So things are bad right now but I know it can only get better. On a side note I heard from a source that Betsy Mason would like to hear from the people who were laid off.
Betsy Mason prints incorrect information in the newspaper - she wants a story, not the human being that was coldly walked out today.
She told me that she wants the words from the people laid off. She want's the people of the tri valley to know what kind of place is running one of the most important labs in th nation. She has already heard that the lay off had no reasoning to it. also that she wants to get the atitud right.

Her e-mail address is on the sidebar. Lock and Load and my you tell your complete story. Yes she needs a 545 people to write what they feel and tell it like it is. Maybe she'll start a blog like NNSA did with your Q&A. Your letters will show up just like t you wrote them.
I am sorry to hear about your wife, but I am so glad you were there for her. Family is evrything and we need to take care of that. As for things being bsd, it could not be worse from a layoff standpoint I would caution you about contacting media, they are looking for a story and not looking not out for your best interest. Take care of your family and do not jepodize that!

Wasnt the guy with > 25 years supposed to be released tomorrow (Friday)?
Hi, I'm the guy who's BMW got hit by the tree on Ave B. Really. And my comment at the time was, "People are getting laid off today... the car's not a big deal."
The damage isn't too bad -- windshield busted, some dents. It's an old car, anyway. The Hyundai next to me got it a little worse.
If you were laid off today...be very careful the next 30 days. I would not put it past LLNS to fire you for cause and take away your severance pay. After all, they own us for the next 30 days.
If Betsy Mason was interested in hearing directly from the person who was let go today she would have been outside the gate with pen, paper, camera and crew.
The media was only interested in the Santa Cruz fire today.
I've worked at the Lab for 25 years, and even though I knew I wasn't going to get the boot I really wasn't prepared to see so many friends and co-workers let go, many of them caught totally by surprise! This place will never be the same again!!! I'll come to work and give a 100% because that's what I'm paid to do, but never ever again anything above and beyond the call of duty!!!

He was a 500 series tech - lots of years with LLNL, but others had more time.
