North Korea is at it again.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3780874/Monitors-report-unusual-seismic-activity-North-Korea.html
North Korea detonates 'its biggest-ever nuke': Huge earthquake at nuclear testing site follows 'hydrogen bomb' in January

Maybe we could strike a deal with them where they are allowed to keep their
weapons program but they must put Bechtel in charge of their labs.

Good idea except sarcasm has been outlawed there!

Did it occur to anyone that the push back from the Chinese (against the West's criticism that it's not doing enough to rein in North Korea) might indicate that the North is actually running an underground TEST SITE for China !

Not funny, actually, that Bechtel or Sandia could get involved with helping China/North Korea manage their test site !

After all the former Director of Los Alamos made many trips to the North on behalf of the Executive Branch and DOE to assess their capabilities.

What's more disturbing is the North Korean development of a Poseidon missile system for their submarines ! The launch picture (Poseidon missile leaving the surface of the ocean on an initially crooked trajectory) is virtually identical to the picture Lockheed distributed to their employees in Sunnyvale, CA of our first Poseidon launch back in 1962 (my guess, I was only 12 or so visiting my father on site and saw the picture in his office).

Another thought, maybe we could trade some NIF shots for time at the North Korean test site ?

Pu production and processing capabilities were his only mission, and in fact, his only relevant expertise.

Gotta call BS on your Hecker is a real scientist and actually knows his stuff and has real gravitas of the complex. He was the last great LANL director My question is when can we have another real scientists lead LANL?

Our self imposed test ban has certainly worked in reigning in North Korea and Iran from their nuclear weapons efforts. Give us another couple of decades of non testing and just think of what the world can accomplish.

NK submarine launch of nuclear weapon capable ballistic missile is a big threat, agreed ?

NK could threaten US homeland in less than two years (my partially educated guess).

So testing would prevent North Korea from developing nukes? Worked real well with the Soviet Union and China. Maybe once in a while read a history book.

That is not what 7:38 AM said, you are using a straw man argument again. What he said is that our own ban did not prevent others from developing or testing weapons, he never said that if we did test that it would prevent other countries from developing and testing. Maybe once in a while you should just "read".

Again, why do we think that North Korea is NOT running a test site for Chinese miniaturized weapons testing ? The Chinese did not stop North Korea and in fact pushed back on the US/South Korea/Japan/Australia/etc... criticism.
