UC's bigger role

Lots of talk that UC will be playing a much bigger role in the new contract this time around. In LANS they just seemed to step back and let the corporate partners control the culture, now that there are no corporate partners this will change and UC can once again participate in a more substantive way. Lets hope this is true.

That would certainly be welcome news.

That's flat false. UC lost the director position to Battelle. UC lost the CEO of the LLC to Battelle. UC lost control of the LLC board of directors to Battelle. UC lost their entire operations scope to Battelle.

"Lots of talk" doesn't change the fact that Battelle is in charge of the contract.

"Battelle is in charge of the contract."

How is Battle in "charge" of the contract, the company is called Triad, it is split three ways. The new Director may be a Battelle guy but his scientific background seems much more in line with what the UC Directors where like before 2000.

In any case the perception was that UC took a back seat to Bechtel during LANS, now they are no longer taking a back seat. You can say what you want about it being just perception but LANL radically changed after LANS came in and it would to argue to that UC suddenly changed in 2006. A more believable scenario is that Bechtel did essentially take over in least in terms of culture.

Delusional musings in the top post can not hide the facts that UC had almost all of the control in LANS and a relatively small part of Triad. Triad is headed by Battelle, run out of Battelle, directed by Battelle, presided over by Battelle and for all practical reasons controlled by Battelle.

UC got to retain some of the PAD and AD holdovers from LANS and that was about it. A&M gets to list their logo on the web page and that is about all they got out of the deal as well.

I think most people are very happy that UC will be playing a bigger role in the management of Los Alamos. Los Alamos is a science lab and always has been, it should have never been turned over to for profit corporate raiders. If one looks at the facts UC did an outstanding job with Los Alamos. Most of the issues in 199-2000 where hyped up in order to get the corporate raiders in. Sure some will have a problem, just look at Walp, Doran, Montano who are still causing troubles however it is clear that their gnashing of teeth is about obtains money and is not based on realty. It looks like NNSA has come to its senses and also want UC to play a bigger role. This is a great victory for the United States, the people of New Mexico and LANL. Hopefully LLNL will also lose the for profit management.

The latter part of your statement is pure speculation, even wishful thinking, on your part, with no evidence to support it. August 18, 2018 at 6:51 AM is absolutely correct.

Again the problem is that LANL radically changed after LANS came in. If UC was still in charge of LANS as you say than why would the lab change so much? The perception is that UC was not in charge but Bechtel controlled the management culture. Just because lots of people came from UC did not mean they worked for UC, the bonus money was a way to buy them off. I am not saying this is true but this is the general feeling from LANL people and does seem to explain lots of things.

Also I simply do not buy that "Battelle" is in charge of everything, the company is called Triad for a reason and at LANL it is certainly being pitched that UC plays an equal role. I am just going to go out on a limb and guess that you do not work at LANL anymore which may be tainting your view of things amongst others issues. Most people think UC's role will increase over that it had in LANS, maybe they are right. I am simply stating what many others are saying.

Sounds like good news that UC will be more active at LANL. I just wish they had done more during LANS.

From todays talk it does indeed look like UC will be playing a much bigger role than the did under LANS. The Triad decisions shows that NNSA does appreciate UC and wanted to make things right.

Thom Mason clarified that Battelle is in charge. Right from the Director's mouth. That puts the lie to the UC fan-boy troll (the guy who doesn't know the difference between "where" and "were".

You are mistaking widespread rumor for actual truth. Lots of people saying things is just noise. Truth is the signal above (hopefully) the noise.

"Thom Mason clarified that Battelle is in charge."

Excuse but Tom Mason did not say Battelle is in charge. In fact he made it very clear that the team members all equal, you know it is kind of in the name Triad. By the way on earth to you do you make this stuff up, do you actually think other people did not watch the presentation?

What is wrong you?

7:32. So all partners are equal? Even Texas A&M who has no upper managers? That's pure nonsense. Nope, wrong. Total garbage and you know it.

Mason made it abundantly clear to everyone who listened that he will be the Director. Mason is a Battelle person and he will be in charge. Battelle has previously made it clear who is in charge of the Triad Board of Directors and it's not a UC person. It's Mason, a Battelle person. Battelle issued the org chart. UC lost all responsibility for Lab Operations. Who gained that responsibility? Battelle. Battelle is in charge.

By continuing to falsely claim that UC has gained responsibility, all you are doing is beclowning yourself.

I fail to see how you can conclude that Battelle is in charge simply because Mason is the Director. Someone has to be the Director and plenty of the other managers are UC types. If you ask Mason himself he will see it is Triad in charge with UC, Battelle, and Texas AM being equal.

As for UC the perception of many if not most of the people at LANL is that UC did not play much of a role in LANS. This is backed by the fact that LANL changed so much after LANS came in. Most think that UC will play a bigger role under Triad, namely 1/3 fo the management. You have also not addressed if you work at the lab. I would guess you do not work at the lab and have not worked at the lab for some time so you may be unaware of how people feel. In general people are very hopeful for Triad. LANS was not very popular, but before LANS UC was very popular. In any case UC is part of LANL and will continue to be so which shows that NNSA does have faith in UC.
