What???

A typical potpourri of NIF hype about improving neutron yields by a factor of 1.5x and tales of visits to the Czech Republic with a Bechtelian to get a $50M contract for LLNL to build a laser for the Czechs. Does anyone know how LLNL could even be considered for that? Why wouldn't they just hire a private laser engineering firm? Does LLNL have a QA/QC department or a pricelist?

More importantly, has the Dept of Commerce even given these people the go ahead to sell such a high tech device to the Czechs?

Of course, the Bechtelians have their ways at getting just about anything they want out of Congress, so who knows.

LLNL is actually the premier laboratory for high average and peak power lasers. That's not hype.

Simple answer is HELL NO. They are wasting their money and until the day NIF gets fusion it should be refused ANY and ALL funding from anyone.

And you were crowned king by WHOM???

WOW you guys are too much, drinking the koolaid I say. We get it, you hate the lab. Just because you had a mediocre career doesn't mean everyone that works at LLNL is bad. The lab actually is the go to place for lasers believe it or not.

I'll unretire to work on it.

I like Czechs. Especially comely blondes with the disordered smiles.

Rest assured that all necessary legal bases have been touched, including export control.

And the reason that the Czechs are getting this laser from Livermore is that we're the only place in the world that can do it.

Uninformed and biased folks on this blog can vent all they want, but money talks.

Unfortunately. I'd be cutting LLNS and LANS off at the knees and giving the contract to the private sector not national labs.

I'm sure you would.

Let's see, I need a state of the art short pulse laser. Guess I'll just pop over to Walmart and get one.

Idiot

You can get one in China, France, the UK, or Russia. I'll wager the Japanese and Germans would be up to the task too.

Also Israel, Pakistan, and India. You need to get out more.

Actually, this laser has been in the works for over a year - the lawyers have been dragging it out. Oh, and there's more to the story than the press will ever be able to report...

Where is my employer pension contribution?

UC always managed to do this why not LLNS?

You are both demonstrably wrong.

The Czechs wanted one, and after an international search and competition (including SPECIFICALLY France), they came to us.

Say what you want. The money talks.
