Not to be too picky, but this is not a "lawsuit". This guy was arrested on a variety of pretty serious criminal charges. "Lawsuit" makes it sound like a dispute between individuals.
As to the article itself...well, I guess this shows that not all Chinese spies are smart.
Where on earth did the article mention spying? He violated a policy, period. I guess not all people are smart enough to be immune from media hype of so-called Chinese spies. Typical xenophobia behavior.
The guy intentionally took a government laptop with him on a trip to China, with foreknowledge that this was against the rules of his employment; and he lied about his intention to do so when asked, before he did it.
I guess there could be another explanation for why he would do that. But spying seems to me to be the most obvious and likely explanation.
The prosecution would have already charged for espionage if there's such evidence.
The most obvious thing to do is don't racial profile people from China or of Chinese origin . Like it or not, everyone is Innocent until proven otherwise, even for co-workers from China. Unfortunately, it is hard to treat them fairly under the big International and domestic environment.
The prosecution might be charging this guy with lesser offences to keep him under control while further charges are being investigated. So I think we should wait a little while before declaring the case closed.
As to profiling: if the guy does things that look like he's spying, and he goes to China in the process, then calling him a chinese spy is NOT profiling - it's telling truth. If he had gone to Luxemburgh, I would have called him Luxemburghian spy.
So just back off your damn politically correct censuring attempt.
