Battelle calls the shots

Triad names leadership team and no one from A&M is on the list Looks as if Battelle will be calling most of the shots with the top two positions and UC has the next three lower level people. In all of this, the biggest question is why was A&M even asked to be on the team if they can not provide any added value?

Looks pretty good. So the top shot goes to Mason and the next two are Webster and Sarrao. I am not sure how you say Battelle calls all the shots, just looking at it it looks like UC and Battelle call the shots. The people I know at ORNL have been very happy and scientifically that lab has been making leaps and bounds in recent years. Let us hope they same will happen at LANL. By the way the Texas-AM tie in may be through Webster. My guess is Texas-AM wants to connect weapons and basic science in the lab in terms of
making some kind joint programs and other tie-ins, hopefully they have something like that planned.

All in all great news for LANL.

Grasping at straws a lot in that speculation, but really hard to see any evidence of any TAMU presence in Trident at all. Maybe it is just "bident" after all, and Battelle and UC will split the operation.

For the very first time in the history of LANL, a UC person will not be in charge of LANL.

Mason is from Battelle. Mason is also the President and CEO of Triad National Security so he is clearly, clearly in charge.

Curiously, a Deputy has not been named nor is there a box on the current Triad org chart for a Deputy. Of the three at the level down, Beierschmitt is a Battelle guy with experience at 3 Battelle Labs; INL, PNNL, and ORNL. We all know Webster as a UC person, but some might not know that he also has one foot in the Texas A&M camp. Sarrao, a UC person, leads science. Makes sense since science is about the only thing UC didn't screw up.

So much for the phony claim that UC's role would increase under Triad. It won't. UC's role will clearly be diminished.

Appears that the OP was correct and there will be no influence at LANL from A&M, other than printing their name on the letterhead. This is about the same level of involvement that they have today at LLNL, which is about 0%.

Looks like UC role will increase since under LANS Bechtel actually called all the shots, at least that is the perception. Also it is the first time since Browne that a real scientists will be in charge of the lab, so in many ways Mason is much more like an old school UC guy than the LANS guys. Culturally it is more like the old UC days than ever, which is a good thing. You have to face the facts that NNSA is basically saying the last 15 years have been a total mistake and they kind of want it to go back to the old way.

Wrong again. Don Kerr was not a UC person. Pete Nanos was not a UC person. Both did irreparable damage to LANL.

Absolute garbage, attempting to rewrite history. Both Kerr and Nanos were chosen by UC and therefore were "UC people." That they didn't work for UC before being chosen is irrelevant.
