Los Alamos Manager’s (aka LANS) Performance on Plutonium Project Criticized
By John Fleck / Journal Staff Writer on Wed, Apr 4, 2012
The contractor team that managers Los Alamos National Laboratory for the federal government did a poor job of managing the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Replacement Nuclear Facility, a proposed plutonium lab that the federal government said this year it was deferring indefinitely because of cost overruns.
In its annual “Performance Evaluation Report” on the lab’s management, the National Nuclear Security Administration said the lab’s management failed to “effectively manage CMRR NF/SFE progress in support of NNSA strategic objectives”.
NNSA made the Performance Evaluation Report public this week amid a battering, including litigation, over the agency’s policy of keeping its contractor performance evaluations secret.
Here’s the document. I’ll have more in tomorrow’s newspaper (scroll down for a direct download if you don’t want to use Scribd):

LANS/NNSA - Cover up!
Evidence that LANS/LLNS/NNSA will put a "spin" on any failure (CMRR/NIF/RULOB/....) and turn it into a overwhelming success.
What's disgusting is that we have the Department of Energy Inspector General (DOE-IG), Government Accounting Office (GAO), Defense Nuclear Facility Safety Board (DNFSB), LANS/LLNS Internal Auditors, and countless of high-level reviewing of LLNS/LANS expenditures and work and one, one single newspaper reporter (Fleck) identifies this waste, fraud, and abuse! What's wrong with this picture? I guess you can't find anything if your not looking.
Te architect of this mess (Anastasio) skipped town, carpetbag stuffed with taxpayer $$ in hand.
The only thing that LANS (Bechtel) and LLNS (Bechtel) do well is lie and steal. At those particular attributes they a world class "Center of Excellence"!
DOE/NNSA is hiding the truth about what is going on at their newly "privatized" weapon labs. Sadly, few care.
But, but, but, but.... LANS has implemented Six Sigma "black belt" techniques at LANL. And Bechtel is using "best practices" that are world class. And the fat bonuses reserved only for the top executives at LANS are suppose to motivate top performance.
How could something like this poor performance report happen? I'm shocked!
