EV Chargin

EV Charging - Contacts? Hi, I'm a new hire at LLNL and surprised that there are no EV charging stations on the campus. A company that is deploying public and private charging stations in my neighborhood, eVgo, says that they would love to touch base with an LLNL facilities manager or someone who could properly discuss a pilot project deploying a few charging stations on campus. Does anyone have any knowledge of plans for future charging stations on campus, or the appropriate office to contact about this?

I have asked about EV charging stations over a year ago and they were considering them, but were no plans yet. There has been site wide surveys sent out in the past trying to gauge the need for them. Send an email to the above email address. This is who I emailed before and got a response.

Don't need it, don't want it. Also get rid of the E85 vehicles. Government can gas up at Costco to save the tax payer. I'm sure some arrangement can be made.

I think there is a charging station at B438

Are you asking for a charging station for your PRIVATE vehicle? The government frowns on that type of thing - using tax dollars for private use. You say you are willing to pay for it, the legal beagles will need to remove the red tape.

If you are asking for a charge as a freebie benefit, well, you should have chosen Google as an employer. See if you can swing a deal via the Open Campus project, that's a great public relations boondoggle.

It's estimated that 1 charging station is required for every 2 EV vehicles that might use it on a daily basis. This would be prohibitively expensive unless the employees are willing to "kick in" $200+ per month per vehicle. An then a strict "use protocol" will be required to avoid fights over the outlets.

Please, please, please do not spend the money on EV charging stations when LLNL facilities are falling apart. No A/C during the summer and no heat during the winter. Let's spend the money wisely maintaining the facilites.

How about $500/month per EV vehicle (paid by the LLNS employee) and one charger (provided by LLNS) per two vehicles ?

Would that cover the charger installation, electric bill and maintenance say costed over five years ?

Anyone who can afford to buy an electric vehicle can afford to charge his own damn car. Get yourself off the government dole for Christ's sake!!

I wonder what the number of pure electric (LEAF) and hybrid vehicles it will require to reach the tipping point where the state of California begins to tax the owners by the mile driven for all the tax revenue lost at the pump? 2 years? 5 years?

Private companies in Silicon Valley are providing charging stations (I think for free) for employees. LLNL and Sandia need to compete. Probably not going to happen since Federal and Lab wages are frozen (thanks a lot Obama, I guess raising the minimum wage will "fix" our economy), and young talent is turned off anyway by nuclear weapons. Not to many "old farts" will drive EV vehicles anyway.

My God, man, shush!!! You want to give Gov. Moonbeam more ideas?

Moonbeam is looking for "bright" ideas for his run against Hillary in 2016. The CA bullet train needs a new funding source. Charging by the mile instead of by gallon would make sense in his screwed up head.

Sorry, the idea of tapping into or recovering lost revenue
from high mpg and or electric vehicles has been out there for years. CA knows they are getting "skunked" on gas station revenue for vehicles using the roadway without paying nearly as much for the usage. It is an itch they can't wait to scratch.

Yeah, and the scratching sends thousands out of California permanently every year. Warm weather, nice beaches, ocean water you can swim in, nice people, low taxes, yeah! North Carolina, here I come!

It's not a campus, it's a NATIONAL LAB ! This is the mindset that ruined this place. Pay your own way with your 40K vehicle. People need to quit sponging and do work.
