Government incompetence has increased markedly under Obama. Good he's going. Hope our next leader is not so weak.

The OPM Leadership should br fired and prosecuted.

Clean house totally, all the tiers of OPM upper management who had any responsibility at all for this. It's an outrage.

Anonymous said...

I agree. Clean house of all the OPM upper management. In past decades a leak like this would have meant trials and prison time for all associated with this complete failure to do their job. We might have just as well submitted the SF86 directly to the Chinese. These folks deserve Federal Pen time.

Thank god this does not happen in the private industry.

Yes, it is all Obama's fault. Can't wait for Donald to take over.

Since the Chinese have all this info on security clearance holders, the only solution is to polygraph everyone immediately. This would eliminate any risk of blackmail. Perhaps polygraphs should be given on a yearly basis.

Regarding Polygraphs, thats brilliant, then the Chinese will have everyones
polygraph results as well. Incompetence at its finest.

OPM director resigns over the scandal, https://www.yahoo.com/politics/opm-director-katherine-archuleta-quits-123735134636.html

Keep going! Every responsible manager and every IT person in the OPM needs to be fired, for a complete house cleaning.

It's "The Donald" to you.

The hackers not only got the Security Forms with all their private and sensitive info for millions of clear employees but also the additional notes of the investigators who interviewed these people in sensitive positions from what I've read in articles.

This is outrageous! It's a serious blow to US national security. OPM is a sick joke.

OPM is a sick joke.

What are you trying to say? They had the most talented and best qualified people in charge. People with enormous technical qualifications about security and computers.

Anonymous said...

The solution is trivially simple: Take it all offline, permanently. There is no reason for there to be any way to access this information through the internet, and once upon a time - not that long ago - there was no way. Treat it like classified if necessary, with classified network access, or just keep it all on paper like it used to be kept. OPM is a sick joke because they negligently allowed this very sensitive information to be stolen, when there were simple ways to make that impossible. Fire them all.

And fire USIS, who lost some of the same data through lazy computer security in 2014. USIS was a contractor who did many of our LLNL SF86 investigations.

Remember a private company will always do things better.

Isn’t this hack an act of war - where are you on this one Obama? Do I trust that your identity protection will actually protect me, my Family, and my Relatives? NOT! Who, in their right mind, would apply for a U.S. Government position after hearing about this breech of trust? This is no longer the country that I became a decorated Vietnam Veteran for . . . what has happened to our beloved America?

Are you calling for another war?

Are you calling for another war?

I hope so, because this time it is someone who can actually defeat and subjugate the US. Better brush up on your Mandarin.

Have you ever considered that this action may just be a precursor to war? Haven’t you noticed that Russia and China have been acting much more aggressively recently? Learn your history and read up on the Cold War . . . this is not a game it is amped up geopolitics on the global stage.

Maybe Russia and China have seen how we treat our own labs. Maybe they think they can win.

I was just reading up on the cold war as you suggested. Very helpful, thank you.
It reminded me of all these great achievments we had in that period:
Korean War,
Vietnam War

Sounds like the good old times are coming back. Who needs diplomacy, when we can bomb someone, even if it means we get our butts kicked.

Anonymous said...

Except that Korea and Vietnam never attacked the US. China has attacked the US, which calls for a Pearl Harbor - like response. Don't fear "butt-kicking." Fear dying in the next world war, or brush up on your Mandarin. The only other choice is fight to win, which was not tried in Korea or Vietnam, or in any US-involved conflict since WWII. Life-or-death will focus your mind.

My neighbor called me today. Said an envelope was left saying she should call an OPM agent regarding investigation of a neighbor for a position of trust. She called me asking if it was legit. I laughed and told her to call the intel section of the Chinese consulate in SF. They would know best.

This is a place where the other guys are better than our team. I'm brushing up on my Cantonese (prettier babes).

Concede the Spratleys. They earned em.
Aleutians next, until we stop employing Neandertals pretending to defend and protect us.

A weak man now as President. Next a woman We are no longer protected by men. Expect more challenges.

Remember Snowden. He was hired by the CIA and was a key support technical operative working for Bush.

If Obama is weak I guess that makes Bush a traitor. It was HIS (Bush) CIA that hired Snowden, the perpetrator of one of the most egregious thefts of classified, secret and top secret documents this country has ever seen.

Yeah, the Chinese may have your s.s. number but nobody is going to have their life put in jeopardy as a result (unlike Snowden).

You sure about that? How about the Chinese, or Iranian, or Syrian, or Russian, citizens that were listed on the SF86 as people a DOE/contractor employee had "close or continuing contact" with, especially if their government was not aware of it and they had access to sensitive information in their home country? The other side of that coin: If you have/had a clearance and had listed "close or continuing contact" with any foreign national, be prepared to be targeted as an espionage source.

Anonymous said...

Gee. I can sit outside the lab and watch every employee drive, walk or ride a bike onsite. I can follow them home if I want. I could figure out almost everything there is to know about them without any special training. Do you honestly think China,Iran, Syria or Russia haven't figured that out? I probablywould have a harder time getting their s.s number. So now the aforementioned can steal my identity and run up a credit card bill compared to what snowmen did which was reveal the names of covert operatives. Bushes guy did far more serious damage to the security of this country. Who git fired for hiring that traitor? We did manage to survive Bush

You haven't survived Obama yet.

Anonymous said...

I think you mean YOU haven't gotten over Obama. Economy steadily improving, check, no more Americans getting wiped out in the middle east, check, stock market at an all time high, check, housing market fully recovered, check.

You ultra left wingbat conservatism is showing.

Anonymous said...

If it was secret or sensitive, China now has it. Another historic fail from the change we can count on folks.

Anonymous said...

If it was classified or top secret now the whole world has it. Thanks to compassionate conservatism.
