NNSA may extend contract

New top post
From another thread

Anonymous Anonymous said...
The story from Forestall is that NNSA did not like any of the presentations, only liked about a third of the written information from each of the three teams and NONE of the proposed lab directors. They are now trying to decide what to do, and an option to extend the current contract is on the table.

This is starting to sound correct from several whispers coming out. NNSA did not like ANY of the proposed Lab directors and did not like ANY of the oral defenses of bids. As a result, one option now open is to extend the LANS contract until NNSA can determine how to get rid of them and get a new M&O.

Here is a thought, if you read the contract call it had some very specific things it wanted. Is it possible that most of the bid teams had LANL managers on them who saw this as a huge "opportunity" just like the last time and wrote what they wanted not what NNSA wanted. I think they wanted to take everything that LANS did and amplify since it has been so good for them. Maybe they figured that nobody was going to bid or that NNSA would have to pick one of the teams. Just as life will find a way, LANS will find a way.

So NNSA is in a bind they can keep the current contract for another year and try again so we get LANS, or they pick one of the teams that are essentially LANS++. It is incredibly sad how we have gotten to this point.

Most managers think LANL should be run like a corporation, as such the CEO should be paid 37-50 times more than the average worker. I think many of the team members had expected that PADS, ADS or what the new ranks would be would be getting at least 3-5 million dollar in yearly payouts, and the director would get 20 million. This may not have gone over very well with the NNSA.

What a total mess! Does this mean the NNSA will clear the decks and start the long, drawn out bidding process all over again? Who does this benefit?

If the Bohemian Grove boys from UC were, indeed, losing the bid then a "do over" would allow them a second chance to snag it. Partners could also change. Perhaps that's the real agenda that is being pushed by the big power players?

...particularly since the vast majoity of them should have been fired years ago.

An extension is now inevitable. This will string out for another year or more with potential rebids and protests from UC. Get comfy LANL, it's your turn to play the DOE game.

Based on what? More BS from the Peanut Gallery.

Nope. Basic math. NNSA asked for a 4 month transition (which will likely take 6 months) and that is why their timetable would put award this month (LANS contract ends Sept 30). But wait, what about a protest??? With one of the criteria written into the RFP being past performance if either UC or Bechtel win you can bet the other will protest. If UC and Bechtel lose, my guess is one of them will protest too on the basis that it was an unfair criteria. Anyone who has been involved with government procurements can tell you that this criteria was a poison pill if any one of the bidders have the guts to protest the decision.

8:43 AM is smoking something. Nobody makes that kind of money working at LANL or any other NNSA site.

Fact free thread.

Correct and many NNSA wanted to keep it that way and that is why they don't like any of the current bids.

Expect to see the possible new Bechtelian overlords come triumphantly into LANL and raise their executives' salaries to new levels of greed and avarice. They'll suck the system dry of everything they can while simultaneously stagnating "worker bee" salaries and cutting every non-management benefit they can find. Perhaps this is what NNSA had in mind when/if they chose them as the LANL contract winners? Their partner, Purdue, will be only a minor and poorly informed player with Bechtel calling all the important shots. What a nightmare!

This blog is useless. Anyone can post whatever lunatic stuff they hear from conversations with their hamster as long as it's PC.

You sure do mention hamsters alot. I think this is TMI.

In this blog, you can say anything as long as it is complies with blog rules .What do you suggest to stop lunatics from posting ?

Anonymous said...

I don't know if there is a way of doing this, but if each anonymous poster could be associated with a personally untraceable but recognizable tag, like say, Anonymous_2xited, then others can tell if two too crazy posts are from the same anonymous person or different ones. Then folks can ignore, censure, ostracize, whatever.

As lunatic as it might sound I started to believe that yes the contract will be extended and actually granted again to Bechtel. Sarrao is a good guy but doesn't have the weapons experience that Webster does. Specially now with the development of pits.

Um, a real blog moderator? (Hint: not Scooby.)

Thanks for the compliment !

Moderating for relevant and appropriate technical content, as well as for good taste, civility, creativity, and lack of personal attacks would also be good. Shoot for the level of education and intellect on Quillette, for example. Too hard for you? I'm sorry, in so many ways.

Anonymous said...

" Webster does."

Are you saying Webster is with Bechtel and Purdue? Hmmm.

Scooby said...

I cannot be the judge in this blog. "Relevant" and "appropriate" are subjective. I set some basic rules and follow them. if you have ideas on how to that ,please share. Otherwise, stop visiting blog .

Grammar ad punctuation errors are endemic here, even with the moderator. No hope for improvement, since his knee-jerk response to criticism is not to try to improve, but to denigrate and ostracize the critic. I guess that the moderator sets the tone, as well as the "rules." This blog could use an infusion of some class.

Webster is with no one. He is almost apolitical.

Scooby said...

What do you suggest we do to improve? To make the blog to your liking ? Do you have time to correct and rewrite every comment and post ? Neither do I .If you don't have any constructive criticism ,stay away.

Anonymous said...

I thought the criticism was perfectly constructive. What you meant was "if you don't have any criticism I can address with no effort, stay away." How about deleting posts that do not present coherent, reasoned, civil arguments? Don't have to agree with your views on anything, just be reasonable and non-demeaning. Simple, yes? No need to justify each deletion, and your measure of success is the lowering of the rate of invective, insults, and just plain craziness on "your" blog. Good, yes?
