Former LANL blog readers should be welcome

Anonymously contributed:

I think we should welcome refugees from the LANL blog. As a sister lab, they may bring insight, intelligence, and a breath of life back into this blog.
1. ask the lanl blog owner to put a new post with a link to this site.
2. preface lanl specific topics with:
LANL:

Scooby,

Sorry, didnt meant to offend! you are doing a great job here.

It would be best for all concerned if unofficial blogs involving NNSA labs were shut down. These blogs allow a few vocal whiners to air dirty laundry and cast a bad light on these crown jewel NNSA research institutions. Get your news from the official NNSA and LLC sites. These are the places to get the news you can trust.

Most employees at the NNSA labs are happy with the new executive management and have decided to join with their LLC teams in making their labs centers of true excellence. LLNS and LANS are making huge improvements in the operations of their respective labs and the recent NNSA metrics prove it. Any other views have no basis in facts. We are lucky to have should wonderful management leading our weapon labs. Join them in taking our labs to greatness. There is nothing we can't do!

As a former LANL blogger, I also appreciate the invitation. Having read some of the posts here, I'm assuming that most of the vitriol and spitefulness the LANL blog exhibited, especially near the end, will be filtered out here. At least, I hope so. Also, many of the character-assasinations against named LANL managers will be less relevant or interesting here.

Hey February 6, 2010 12:37 PM!
You want unofficial Lab blogs shut down?
I suggest you pretend this one is shutdown and feel free to no longer visit it. How about that?

Talk about a company man or women. I like Scooby's idea. Don't like what is said here, don't visit and forget this blog exist. The idea of a blog is to hang out ALL the dirty laundry. If I had my way it would name name/s, places and times. This blog is where people actually get to tell the rest of the nation what its like to work for NNSA, LLNS and LANS, how they treat their people, how demoralizing it is to be here and how inefficient these transitions have proven to be. Personally I've seen literally no improvement since the take-over, but by golly I've seen more inefficiency and obstacles put in my way of getting the job done then ever before. Truthfully, more money is being spend now to do far less work. At least at LLNL we spend 90% of the budget on BS bureaucracy paperwork leaving only 10% of the allocated budget applied to the actual work to be done. So if you're a client, with $1M will get you a $100K return. Way to go clowns.

Scooby, watch out for February 6, 2010 12:37 PM. He poluted the LANL blog quite frequently. Many posters there failed to see the ironic humor and instead responded with flames. Just fed his fire.

I like the 12:37 PM post because it shows we are getting to them. :) The more management spends time defending themselves on blogs like this, the more our of control they look like. What are they going to do next, wire/bug the homes of employees to be sure they aren't bad mouthing management at home?

Please, as I tried to point out, this guy is not "management defending themselves"!! This is a clever jokester who counts on the fact that nobody on the LANL (or now LLNL) blog recognizes or appreciates irony or dark humor. He is just trying to encourage dissent and divisiveness. The more you treat him seriously the more he grows. Stop it. He isn't worth anything but a knowing, dismissive, chuckle.

Yeah, that damn First Amendment thing, what a nuisance!

They already do at LANL to some extent. If you are using a LANL laptop with the mandatory Full Disk Encryption (FDE) installed, you should know that it "phones home" frequently to special LANL servers with all sorts of info about what you've been up to on your laptop. Beware!

Of course, it's their laptop, so I suppose you could legally argue they can do anything they want with it. Still, I find this "phoning home" activity creepy.

When I read 12:37, I come away with a strong sense of what one would hear from the Nazi's. You know like Joseph Geobbels----head of party propaganda. The language pattern and thought.

"Propaganda must always address itself to the broad masses of the people. (...) All propaganda must be presented in a popular form and must fix its intellectual level so as not to be above the heads of the least intellectual of those to whom it is directed. (...) The art of propaganda consists precisely in being able to awaken the imagination of the public through an appeal to their feelings, in finding the appropriate psychological form that will arrest the attention and appeal to the hearts of the national masses. The broad masses of the people are not made up of diplomats or professors of public jurisprudence nor simply of persons who are able to form reasoned judgment in given cases, but a vacillating crowd of human children who are constantly wavering between one idea and another. (...) The great majority of a nation is so feminine in its character and outlook that its thought and conduct are ruled by sentiment rather than by sober reasoning. This sentiment, however, is not complex, but simple and consistent. It is not highly differentiated, but has only the negative and positive notions of love and hatred, right and wrong, truth and falsehood."

Who said that?

Then 12:37 must be a pretty observant individual opening the mines of others who've been blinded by the propaganda of the establishment.

Mein Kampf contains the blueprint of later Nazi propaganda efforts. Assessing his audience, Hitler writes in chapter IV: ( your long disortation )

Amazing how you quote Hitler and then take up for NNSA / DOE /LLNS and LANS who in fact do the same thing by blowing smoke up the politicians butts. There is no difference.

Am I missing something? I have accepted the many posts of 12:37 as sarcastic, especially given the numerous demonstrable untruths from ULM throughout the transition period. If this poster is truly serious, then he must also be blind.

You have to understand - he is absolutely sarcastic in his approach. However, he also is truly serious. His subtle, insidious version of reality is warped and dangerous. He is immune to irony. The worst thing anyone who actually cares about LANL or LLNL as institutions could do, would to be to take him seriously. Just make him irrelevant by chuckling at his diatribes, and move on.

The only one the people who read this blog are laughing at is you. No one on this site likes LLNS, so pack your ditty bag and move on dude. Your pro lab and pro management are not wanted here.

This is the only factual statement I've seen. Those in ULM do this proficiently everyday of their lives.

You think the post by February 9, 2010 9:01 PM was "pro management"??
You think one cannot be pro lab and anti (current) management? Better broaden your perspective a little.

Actually, I don't mind working for LLNS. Its the damn incompetent, under-handed, self centered management (people that were here before the transition) that have really let things go. Many of these same people have been at the labs +10 years. Otherwise, its not such bad institute to work for....I'm to young to remember better times.

You missed the boat. In the old days we actually got a lot more done for a lot less and the attitudes of the people were far, far better then they are today. Each person owned a part of making headway and brought to the table innovation enthusiasm and pride in doing the best they could. There was security, benefits and above all a retirement plan that offers light at the end of the tunnel at 59.5 years old. Now you have none of the above, it's just a job and you can be gone at any time. Realistically LLNS has nothing to offer anyone except maybe one more day on the job, if you make it past noon without being escorted out the gate.

The current situation at LLNL hits hardest on the old timers who still remain. They remember how good it was at one time, working for a well respected non-profit institution that instilled loyalty in the workforce.

The current crew of top managers is only here for the almighty buck, no matter what they may tell you to the contrary. They are nothing more than "hired gun" corporate whores.
