All I know is if you are a talented young scientist you are looking to leave the laboratory. Also, when does NNSA, the american people, and the laboratories realize that you need to just get rid of middle management. Everyone knows this is the case, why does it not happen ? when you become a scientist, you know you are going to work long hours to be successful. This is not happening anymore at LLNL or LANL. The laboratories clear out at 5:00. No one cares. Management needs to change ASAP or the laboratories will be a thing of the

A sad commentary on the National Labs, I remember back, several years ago when most everyone was treated with respect and most enjoyed their jobs, working 9-10 hours a day. If the talent goes down they will never be able to re-coop the loss.

5:00? Our parking lots are empty by 4:00!And, they don't fill up until 9:00 AM.

And these are (mostly) employees who are supposedly working 9 hour days Mon - Thurs except 8 hours on Fri and every other Fri off. I am often coming "up the hill" around 3 - 3:30 pm and the line of cars going down is unbelievable. If the Lab ever decides to enforce time-card fraud, it would be a quick and painless way to get rid of a whole lot of employees. We used to call them "dead wood." The proof is easy and there is no "protected class" or "discrimination" defense. Unfortunately, the managers who would have to gather the evidence are also committing the same fraud. This is ripe for Congressional investigation.

Or what about the employee's and there two hour bike rides during lunch. There is no accountability.

Ahh, but this is exactly what LANS and LLNL want. Remember the only thing that counts is safety and security. As one of the reports said about the contracts is they are really only about punishment there is no award for accomplishing something like science or breakthroughs. To LLNLS and LANS every employee is a liability not an asset so the less time people are at the lab the better. Someone who never shows up also never has a safety or security problem and that is the perfect employee. As for a Congressional investigation forget about it we are a private corporation now. By the way has anyone thought about having a for-profit company running the secret service?

Oh, but it is - the whole Government too.

Thank you for your honest responses. I agree with them all. People will do anything for a job. I think I will continue to look for a job.

Most LLNL employees on AWS schedule put in no more than 8 hours a day.
I observe this day in and day out.

Does it bother you as a tax payer ?

Taxpayers have many more and bigger things to be "bothered" about. However, as a person who believes in moral and ethical behavior, yeah, it bothers me a lot. These slackers, who seem to care as little about their own careers and futures as their employer does, I say "why?" Are you that dead to your own potential and interests? Are you that "trapped" in your job that you feel you'll never be worth anything better? And I hesitate to say it, but are you that sunk into your dead-end existence living in the same little community your ancestors have lived in for many generations without raising or bettering themselves, that you will do anything or compromise your integrity in any way to stay in that rut? Recognize that in perpetuating that situation, you perpetuate the widely-held belief that education and advancement are not priorities for you and your neighbors, and that dependence on government is your only hope and goal.

Gives me gas, sometimes uncomfortable, sometimes pleasant.

Scooby's delete button is getting overheated. He doesn't get it that deleting posts that have been up for over a week is just silly and juvenile retribution for saying something he doesn't like. Nyah nyah nyah! I have a delete button and you don't! Very adult of you.

I do not delete what I don't like. I delete what violates BLOG rules.

How about specifying in each post that is to be deleted what violates the rules, before you delete them? You interpret your own "rules" so broadly that they might as well not exist.

"Stay on topic
No foul language
No name calling"

These were violated in NONE of the deleted posts. Like I said, just juvenile. Like the cartoon dog.
