No matter who wins in November, rumors abound for the Administrator of NNSA. The posters here tend to be sporting types, so who is willing to name names and place odds?

What's the rush? It may take some time to fill the job. Last time they could not find anyone that would take it, and D'Agostino was not the first choice (or second, or third, or...)
The pay is less than what a DL makes and you have to live in DC. What's the upside to the job?
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, UC "sent" Anastasio to "fix" LANL. Odds on him being "sent" to "fix" NNSA, 30:1.
If you're going the ex-director route, consider Tom Hunter. DoD wants the stockpile to just be an engineering issue now and SNL needs all the money anyways.
If Obama s reelected, then the SNL insider could move up.

Let us face the facts here boys and girls. If NNSA is still issuing us the commands, it doesn't matter who's the figurehead, we lose.
I'll go with the Hunter (SNL) bet. It appears that the current administration thinks Sandia can handle most, if not all, of the remaining nuclear weapons refurbishment work. That may not change if Obama loses in November. Both Democratic and Republican budget cutters are looking for ways to cut back defense related spending.
LANL has been languishing ever since Obama came to office. Heck, just last fiscal year LANL got rid of 12% of the workforce with more reductions probably coming in FY2013. LLNL is suffering image problems due to their NIF fiasco. Both SNL and ORNL are the cherished labs for now and for the future. Look there for your next NNSA administrator.
Hunter, just like D'Agostino, is an in-bred product of the system and not likely to be successful in making the required changes.
It would be far more likely to succeed if it was someone that had been exposed to the inside of the system in order to understand the problems, but had spent most of their career outside DoE.
Cherry Murray is one example, there are others as well.
Parney might have been a candidate if the republicans come back into office, but not now.

If so, watch out, NNSA! One thing I know about Steve - he does not tolerate fools gladly.It would be really fun to watch.
Can't image anyone smart enough to do the job would be dumb enough to take it. NNSA is 90% losers. You can't win with a staff like that, and with GS employess, you can't change it significantly. The only hope for the stockpile is that NNSA goes away and Congress prohibits rehiring more than 10% of its people into the replacement organization.

Not a likely choice.
Gordon was the first to try to do the job, so there could be some energy to go back to a retired general once again. Cartwright has penned op ed articles recently on the issue, so might want to look in that direction.

A high probability choice under other conditions. Likely to be someone with a comparable background.
It would be ironic for Parney to head NNSA and become the abused customer/sponsor in its relationship with the lab mouthpieces. "Washington doesn't tell us what to do... we tell Washington what to do..."
Tomas will come back with a vengeance and take over NNSA. Mark my words. Those who betrayed him will suffer the consequences. The man is an unstoppable force much needed in government right now. There is no one more qualified and capable of leading NNSA back into glory and into the grace of god than Tomas.
If Chu can survive Nungate, he will want someone that he is comfortable to spend a lot of time with. After all the fiascos of the past year he will want someone that is more like a old friend. Someone like Garwin.
I bet it'll be the Y-12 nun. She'll know how to fix security problems.

Whoa. Yeah, dude. Whatever. Probably his lousy treatment of people, and his "The Most Interesting Man in the World" persona that you've bought into, will land him in the good graces of 100% of the American people. Hee Hee Hee Hee.
He tried to nominate himself for the time magazine top 100 influential people or whatever that list is called. Pretty pathetic actually.

Yep, no change at all there. Both are as in-bred as it gets.
In-breeding as the worst slight leveled against someone ... says that they aren't such bad potential candidates. Maybe someone has more... Fraud and embezzlement, tax fraud, even lesser things like cronyism, pathological liar, unethical, immoral behavior, strange body modification, other skeletons in the closet, something easy to ridicule. I don't know much about either, but so far the last comment has improved their favorability.
Yeah it's hard when someone decides to mention something about Tomas because then, after that, everyone looks like a saint. It's hard to launch a decent character assassination attempt on someone in such circumstances.
When Congress responded to the Los Alamos safety and security debacles by creating NNSA out of DOE they correctly identified the disease, but missed the treatment. No matter if the NWC is in DOE or NNSA or DOD or where ever it is, if has someone from the family in charge, do not expect to see any more change than when Congress last acted on this.
Those that are lobbying for anyone that has spent most of their career inside the family are asking for more of the same.
As usual, LLNL has the "high opinion" of itself by proposing that Parney is the next NNSA Director. Sorry guys, this is a real-stretch, Parney is a non-candidate, he hasn't accomplished anything. We are also still waiting for the McMillan/Knapp "Livermore" duo to accomplish something at Los Alamos.

Someone needs to have real accomplishments in order to get a politically appointed position in Washington? WHAT!!! Don't tell me that. I wanted to fail my way up the food chain. Please don't tell me that merit matters. That would just burst my bubble.
A good ability to spin information and keep the pile of dead bodies concealed might help your case, dude.

Why in the hell would Knapp take over an "organization (i.e. NNSA)" he loathes and for what, less pay? Besides, he already has more power and authority in his current role; NNSA is afraid of this "bad boy"!

He's helped SNL with the B-61 budgets. Went to Russia with SNL managers and Bret Knapp to take pictures of the Kremlin to show LANL employees.
