More LANL security headlines

Charlie said not to worry when the TA 55 security fence had issues, because the guards were on the job and all was good. But wait, now it turns out that some of the guards were out taking pot shots at the rocks with their service hardware. This whole sorry mess looks worse than what led to the last contract transition.

This is just another example of the lax security mentality at Los Alamos. Do we need something "BIG" to happen before the culture changes. These are all warning signs! Heed the warning.

I agree we should get rid of the scientists.

Hey shooting is part of the fun.

Mythbusters have such fun with their 20 mm gatling guns.

Note how Charlie "Slick" McMillan is blaming the "gatling gun" incident on the security contractor and completely covering up the details. This guy is a goddam con artist to the "bone".

Well it looks like it's "business as usual" at LANL. Another, in a whole series of cluster f***s.

Since the near miss electrocution and the classified discs in the trailer park several years ago it had been going so smooth, until the past nine months or so. Recently it has been one safety accident or security event every time you turn around. Time for some new talent at the top, if it isn't too late already, and not anyone from inside the current ranks.

Don't worry, I'm sure LANS can implant some more of those wonderful Bechtel managers to clean this mess up.... for a big fee to Bechtel, of course.

How long can LANL exist with these types of situations? Especially now during the fiscal challenges, it is becoming more obvious that LANS is not up to the job.....

No matter how hard the spin campaign it is a very narrow and fast closing path for the laboratory leadership to remain in place. In this context 'leadership' may include all lab wide above group leaders.

I wanna see a full color picture on the front of the New York Times, with "Girl on a Tank" at Los Alamos.
With the heading, SOC guards make a mockery of LANL security !!

LANS LLC and LLNS LLC will be removed just after Capt. D'Agostino leaves NNSA and takes a cushy and highly lucrative job as a VP over at Bechtel.

Apparently "girl on a tank" also posted all the action footage on youtube using her personal phone/camera.

The excuses are running low in this area.
When the 82 year old nun breached security at Y-12 the excuse given to Congress by DoE was that the security contractor did not report to the plant contractor. Oops, that one won't work at LANL.

It may be that the only way now to stop a decision to terminate the operating contract is to have a full turnover in the key personnel.

If what is posted above turns out to be true, how many rules were broken?

Personal cell phone on lab property
Taking photos on lab property without prior written approval

It's about time all these cowboys and buttheads re-surfaced at LANL. What took them so long? And LANS thought they got rid of them, haha!

What people fail to recognize is that the activities involving the firing of weapons was done in the name of greater (financial) security and viability for that lab. They were trying to do the right thing, and we are punishing them for it.

Let us remind ourselves of the iconic man Jed Clampett and the greatness of his accomplishments enabled by a single gun shot. By slapping down such activity at LANL, we will never know if the lab's funding problems will be fixed with the aid of oil revenues. Now we'll never know. Now we'll never know.

Girl on a tank? Jed Campett? Oil revenue labbailout?

Am I the only one who would like to know what really went on at the firing range?

I also heard that a LANL "Chief of Staff" coordinated this entire event under the nose of a Senior LANS Manager. That's why LANS isn't talking.
