Five Los Alamos Guards Dismissed
Five Los Alamos National Laboratory security guards have been fired after allowing unauthorized visitors to operate a variety of weapons at the lab’s shooting range, laboratory Director Charlie McMillan confirmed in a message to lab employees shortly before Thanksgiving. The guards, employed by lab protective force subcontractor SOC, are believed to have accessed the shooting range in the lab’s Technical Area 72 earlier this month. An anonymous tip sparked an investigation by the laboratory and SOC, which led to the dismissal of the guards. “After a swift but preliminary inquiry, it was concluded that inappropriate behavior warranted the termination of five protective force firing range personnel,” the lab said in a statement. “The Laboratory will continue to determine involvement by others, including Laboratory personnel.”
The lab said that its review of the incident determined that there was no safety or security risk, but it said it “does not tolerate unauthorized use of our facilities or equipment. We hold ourselves and our contractors to the highest possible standards of behavior.” Lab spokesman Kevin Roark said the lab’s investigation of the incident is “ongoing and we will determine what further actions are needed, if any.”

"Girl on a Tank" makes a mockery of LANL Security. These employees' were trained by SOC to help secure LANL.
Y-12 has nothing on us at LANL, hey we can out do you guys anytime, wait till the details come out on this one!!

Hell, the only way McMillan will talk if is Senator McCain horse whips him, and that ain't gonna happen, although I'd pay good money to see this.
I'm still waiting for the firings to go all the way up the chain to Carl Beard and HIGHER! I'm waiting.....
If they fired five male guards, how many females were present for this little ole party up on the Mesa??
And, is it true that at least one of the girls has a special job close to a special manager?
The personal cell phone on lab property, if true, is a big deal.
Poor Charlie. Read his memo and you see the threads of lofty ambition coming apart to expose confused reality headed to desperation. Come on, all workers at the plant are contractors. It is not like some are second class contractors and others are first class employees.
It just doesn't matter how far down the chain where the screw up happened, the blame has to rest with the dude at the top. Attempting to shift blame by calling the fired employees 'contractors' is just a smoke screen to hide the true issue. Everyone that comes to work at the Laboratory is a 'contractor'.
I wonder how much LANS paid the fired SOC workers to keep their mouths shut in return for not disclosing their names? This smells like a "cover up" of major proportions.

This isn't Charlie's memo! This is clearly written by General "Marquez" Haig. He's clearly taken over. God save us!
Is McMillan really that dumb or stupid (or both) to think that his "customers" will accept this inane explanation of what happened on Lab property by untrained and uncleared women in heels using government issued weapons on a tank taking movies with personal cell phones being placed on youtube. Hello...are you kidding me!!!
"... women in heels using government issued weapons on a tank .."
Humpin hoes, Batman! Women with guns!
You can fire any of these for $1 per cartridge at Nevada shooting ranges.
or one of the brothels...
love the southwest.
lets blow up some desert.
If someone has the video clip it should be quick to back calculate the number of rounds fired, and from there the ammo cost of this alleged misuse of government funds.

Wrong, this is where the firings should have begun, from the top down, ala Nanos management tactics.
Putting a pretty young things hand on a blazing gun has been the the objective of life since Eve winked at Adam.
Bravo men. You show again that the rules can restrain but can't contain life.
Keep your eye on the prize.
(as my hero, that old goat MLK did and used to say)
Pres.idential material
The place is a joke!
Anyone got the URL link for the video or has it been pulled off the net by now?
If I have this correct, some folks flagrantly and stupidly broke some very basic rules. Documented said stupidity then compounded the crime by posting it for the world to see?
I guess the wild wild west is still alive at LANL.
Angry LANS executives who now won't receive fat 20% annual bonuses will be in no mood to hand out even 1% raises for LANL employees this year. They'll be out for revenge on the remaining lab staff.
The LLNL security deputy has been making blunders for the many years she had been in that position and with no consequences. Same thing - somebody in pro force needs to go but the source of the problem remains. Treating the symptoms but not the disease.
Is it true that the live-fire event was organized at a high level?
5 fired guards
4 friendly visitors
3 caught workers
2 posted videos
and a scandal on a shooting range
With apologies to the seasonal original.
Is it true that the live-fire event was organized at a high level?
December 2, 2012 3:38 PM
Yes, it is my understanding that the event was organized by people in an observation stand at least 5 feet above the level of the range.
Anyone have the link to the video or is this another rumor ?
One story making the rounds is that the guards were returning a favor for getting to visit some of the harder to see parts of the inside of the Lab. Perhaps this quid pro quo could help explain why the truth is taking so long to come out.
It's too bad that no one in Congress or Senate has the "balls" to determine what actually occurred here. I guess the cowboys and butt heads at LANL finally wore them down.
The press reported that the five guards were "fired". One might speculate that they were offered generous severance packages to keep quiet about the full true events. Would venture that any such gag clause would not be enforceable if they were under oath in a congressional hearing.
Priceless!
