There is no more room for nails in the LANS coffin, so LANL has decided to start wrapping it with steel bands. The real issue has become, what sort of draconian management organization is going to replace LANS? It's Wen Ho and the classified at the meth house and the misplaced classified and the Mustang and everything else, all over again, except multiplied by 4-pi because the new list involves safety and nuclear materials. Congress is starting to ask pointed questions about LANL, and you can bet that whoever takes over is going to come in with a mandate to clean house and fire everyone who doesn't follow procedures. This will carry over to the rest of the complex, just like Wen Ho, and the rest of us will pay, again, for the cowboy culture at LANL.

Ah, yes, the much-maligned, "cowboy culture" is once again to be blamed for the malfeasance of a few bad managers.

In a public hearing, on June 7, LANS just finished informed the Defense Facility Nuclear Safety Board (DNFSB) and the public that the LANL nuclear waste storage and management program was the "gold standard" of the U.S. nuclear complex. On day two, Rick Kacich, LANL Deputy Lab Director, was present (on behalf of Charlie McMillan to state this, even though he left just before the public input session. He (LANS) didn't want to waste their time listening to stakeholders. It's time to relieve LANS of their duties immediately for placing the public at risk with this incident and egregious error, this is unacceptable.

The NNSA head, Klotz, alerted the Secretary of Energy, Moniz, and the two of them flew to Los Alamos to meet with McMillan, a man known for both charm and hubris. “Los Alamos is a legend,” McMillan has boasted in a promotional video. “It’s an icon. And of course, because of that, everybody notices what we do here; and we’re held to a very high standard.”

Let's see "how high of a standard" Klotz holds his friend McMillan on this incident! Does Klotz have fortitude?

Where is the beef?

Impeccable timing with McMillan's Gallup "rigged" poll being released to employees last Wednesday.

What kind of wacked out delusion is going on in your head today? How is this connected to cowboys, Wen Ho Lee or anything. It is simply another LANS screwup. All you have to do is count the number of screwups after the contract change compared to before it is very clear that it has nothing to do with the workforce or UC. It has to do with for-profit motive of LANS.

In any case you seem to have some personal issues with LANL which we can all guess by know is getting fired or being shown the door for your incompetence. Have you ever thought that LANL has nothing to do how you have failed in life. Perhaps present situation is due to the sum total of your limited abilities and poor decision. It has nothing to do with scientists, people with PhDs, LANL, engineers, techs, admins, or anyone who works hard to succeed. Just something for you to think about before you post another one of your "I HATE LANL" rants on the blog.

I love it when puppets respond as planned. It's like the sun rising every morning, it gives you confidence in the predictability of the universe.

I think LANS has plumbed the depths of "the workers did it" blame game and it is time, well past time actually, for McMillan to go. Since he has surrounded himself with sycophants who know never to push bad news up the line, it is time the bad news rains from above.

With LANS almost gone, it may be time for a caretaker until the next contract comes in next year. Someone that is known to be marginally competent, but not a serious leader? Kuckuck redux.

Make pits. Pits that blow the shit out of our enemies, if necessary. Make a few extra.

Can you provide even one little shred of evidence for this statement? Of course not because Congress hasn't paid any attention to LANL or any other NNSA facility in over two years. Sorry to burst your bubble, little man.

Sorry all, but it is the culture that is a problem. Walk the halls, "rules are just in the way". This is the standard discussion. The real problem is that many of the people at LANL think they are better than all of this and the money will keep flowing.

A fitting coda to privatization of a nuclear weapons factory.

Do you have any proof of any of this? I think not. The idea that the average worker at LANL thinks he/she is better than it all is pure nonsense and you know it. Again you have some kind of extreme hatred for LANL that makes you make crazy statements that you can never back up. What the hell is your problem? Could you just give us your story or would be like some kind of confession that you cannot give because it would make you look bad.

Yes, give us the story. Your unfair bashing of LANL is tedious. Tell us what happened, who fired you? why? or do the terms of your settlement prohibit that?

You are risking (and deserving of) an admonishment from our new mod. You are also not paying attention, even to news linked on this site, http://www.santafenewmexican.com/news/local_news/absolutely-unacceptable-error-in-shipment-of-nuclear-materials-prompts-probe/article_5c845fee-4b05-51e8-9f19-efa63afee7a9.html Your entire universe is about to change with the next contract, shut up and follow the line or ship out.

Over and over again LANL demonstrates that employees and managers alike are delusional about its position in the national debate. When no one is giving a flip about the lab, employees still insist that they are the center of the entire discussion. Then when Congress does focus attention on the lab, managers proclaim that all is well and no problems exist. On both ends of the conversation the common theme is the delusional attitude displayed.

How completely ridiculous. The workers are just trying to keep their jobs. Managers pound on them because they cannot tell their bosses that things aren't going well. Their only recourse is to push the people below them ever harder. If the management cared about the mission and not just their big salaries and bonuses, the workers would have a chance to do things right. Privatization guaranteed this kind of irresponsible management.

June 25, 2017 at 7:42 AM

Follow he line? How is our entire universe abut the change? The workers will still be employed you will still be out of mind bitter and unemployed. You will gnash you teeth wave your fists in the air blaming the universe for being so unfair.

So what did happen? Did you get beat up in a parking lot after getting a lap dance, did you think you are some great whistleblower but in the end has no friends or respect, did you think your are some super genius but the "system" would not recognize you, did you think you great ideas should be sold to Venezuela, did you talk to the press once and feel powerful but now can never achieve that same feeling again. Maybe you got retired before being fired and send endless hate letters to all sorts of blogs and newspapers Or maybe you are just out and out insane and think that LANL is housing the treys that poison your mind. I guess none of the reasons matter since they all effectively lead to the same place.
