Pincus on prolonged sequester impact to NNSA

Will the threat of a continued sequester yield rational changes to the U.S. nuclear weapons program? It won’t save much money in the short run, but it’s an opportunity to apply some logic to the Cold War thinking that hangs over these most destructive weapons. The fiscal 2014 continuing resolution, thanks to sequestration, cuts almost $1 billion from President Obama’s requested $7.9 billion for the weapons program of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the Energy Department outfit that runs the nation’s nuclear weapons complex. If the $6.9 billion projected by the Congressional Budget Office for the NNSA weapons program is maintained for fiscal 2014, it “could soon accomplish what arms control activists have repeatedly failed to do, curbing the rapid growth of the U.S. nuclear weapons budget,” according to an analysis in the Albuquerque Journal, the New Mexico newspaper that closely follows the nation’s nuclear weapons laboratories. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/the-sequester-a-new-lever-for-cutting-nukes/2013/10/21/8a50e948-382b-11e3-80c6-7e6dd8d22d8f_story.html

Thank goodness. It's about time that the budget for these nonsense projects gets reduced (either intentionally or non-intentionally)

More cuts coming after Jan 1st with sequestration. More down-sizing at the labs will be the likely outcome. It's a new world.

Ahhh, the socialists again. Great to have them. They are probably also responsible for your hemorrhoids.

I agree with the last comment. Could we require proof of at least a GED certificate for comments in this blog?

October 24, 2013 at 7:49 AM is in fact October 24, 2013 at 5:04 AM praising himself. The writing style (or lack thereof) and misspellings are exactly the same.

And he or she is still correct no matter what your little mind is telling you. You just have to accept the facts as they are, facts, period, end of subject.

Except you don't have any facts. At least none supported by evidence that everyone can agree on. The fact that not everyone agrees with you is a pretty good indication you might not be dealing with facts, but just your opinions.

People who do Ad hominem attacks on others because of writing skills are themselves showing their ignorance. Is it any wonder that those who are highly skilled writers are paid so poorly in our society?

It is perfectly fine to point out, if someone's writing skills are bad. Same with math. In today's world where spell checker and calculators are all around us, there is no excuse for either bad writing or math.

But as a study has shown: Most districts where the tea party people have a safe seat, the percentage of college educated people is about 17%.

Again, that is probably the fault of Obama and the socialists. Let me actually make that Obama and the communists.

Case made, evidence supplied. Have a great day. But.... come on lets hear it.....

I doubt there is a reputable study that shows this to be true, although such results would not necessarily surprise me. College educated people tend to be wealthier than non-college educated people. Whereas liberalism tends to favor the well-to-do and the rich, people who did not have the opportunity to go to college and actually work for a living are often attracted to conservative viewpoints.

The old saw from the 80's still applies: "A liberal is a conservative who hasn't been mugged yet" (by the government or others).

It doesn't take that long. A first full-time paycheck confiscating 40% in taxes is enough to wise up those fiscally responsible.

"Hey 40% for what? Make due with less. I do."

Clearly someone who does not work in the labs, otherwise the hypocrisy could not be bigger.

Working for the government doesn't protect you from being mugged by the government.
