AKIMA layoffs

Has anyone looked into the layoff Akima has been doing for the Lab? Are they in violation of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN)? Just curious, seems there were constant layoffs going on and they always kept the numbers low so as not to enact the above law (aka staged layoffs). No notice is given to workers on pending layoffs, you get notified the day you are laid off.

I thought there were going to be no lay-offs what so ever since the got rid of almost 400 people a few months back. Are we looking at another 400 before Christmas.

We are not DOE employees, we are employees of a private company - LLNS - and not covered by this DOE plan.

The LLNS President will be making the decision on what happens to LLNL employees as carryover funds in LLNS/LLNL accounts dry up.

Is it true some 40 NIF employees were either let go or put on the EIT list last week?

I know an employee of AKIMA working in NIF as a laser technical person. He said there is no worry about his job.

Special skills or new knee pads.

Supplemental labor is given a higher salary over his or her FTE counterpart to offset lower job stability (historically).

If LLNS FTEs are now "at will employees" with no greater job protection over supplemental labor (Akima), are FTEs due retroactive delta pay to the point of the LLNS policy change?

Uh, that's always been the case. You're just now realizing it?

Not true. Anyone LLNL FTE that has been around for a decade or more knows supplemental labor was a buffer to budget and or project fluctuations. Please read the supplemental labor policies, in particular those existing prior to November of 2012.
