I think he stepped down to send a message to Washington that they need to stop screwing us over.

Parney is one of best directors we have had. Does anyone know whether Parney received an offer he could not refuse or he was simply fired?

How about he's sick of all the BS...and is in a position financially to not have to put up with it.
Follow his lead....

Brett Knapp had better not be on the list for LLNL lab director. That guy has zero vision, very limited skill set (beyond yes-man), etc...a bit troubling to see him up there today.

Anyone who thinks Parney is a loss never suffered his arrogant abuse. He killed WFO by stifling work with new sponsors

Parney resigns and Brett Knapp takes his place. Parney's action of getting off the ship before the SHTF is a smart move. So to date, how many big wigs has LLNL have jump ship? I know LANL is happy to see this move.
Leisure is no peach, but LANL is very, very happy to se Bret Knapp back where he belongs.
Shoulda taken his organ grinder monkey with him!
This is a training program for Knapp so he can return to LANL to be its next Director.
I worked with Brett for a number of years at LLNL. The only people I knew who had negative comments about him were those who weren't doing their job.
We'll see. Power and greed tends to make even the best sell their soul to the devil.
5:38. Riiiiiight. You keep him then.
There must be more to the story than Knapp being named "acting". He has been promoted into permanent status from "acting" in every position he has had recently. The board must have determined that none of the other final candidates to replace George were up to the job. FWIW, Charlie would make a very good Director for Livermore, and then he would be tied with Mike as Director of both Labs. There are several good options for Los Alamos to follow Charlie, but the board might not be able to convince them to accept the position.
Certainly if Knapp had to compete for any of the jobs he has been handed, he would not have made the cut.

I too worked for Knapp at LANL. The guy is absolute "prick".
Brett Kanpp is well and justly hated by most of the staff who work under him at LANL. He seems to truly hate those around him and is quick to show it.
How an unimpressive man like this has risen through the ranks at the NNSA labs is beyond me.
One need only watch the equally unimpressive march to the top of his lap dog Craig Leasure to see how he got where he is. He was simply permantly appointed by those above him. Neither have applied for any of the jobs they've had. Indeed most of their subordinates fit the exact same mold. One is forced to wonder what HR reps do at LANS?

Unlike during the UC days, HR at LANS is just another lapdog for upper management. Maybe this just reflects the difference between a publicly funded employer and a private company, in terms of what they feel they can get away with.
But the cutest little lap dogs of all are the NNSA managers, who give the LLNS/LANS/Bechtel LLCs undeserved passes on substandard performance scores.
